November 6th, 2018

On November 5th, 2018, residents and staff met with representatives from the Cowan Foundation to receive a $25,000.00 cheque towards a new van for Participation Support Services.
With the support of the Donald Richie Annual BBQ, held by the Brantford Power staff and the Edith and Roger Davis Foundation – the Cowan Foundation donation provides over half of the money required to purchase a new mini van to be used by the residents of Participation Support Services.
As you can imagine, accessibility is a major concern, particularly accessible transportation. In January of 2009, a family member donated a modified 2004 Dodge Caravan to Participation Support Services. Although Participation Support Services does own a larger passenger bus, this small van was much more economical for staff to take clients to personal medical appointments, shopping, banking and other activities in the community. It allows the people we support to have individual time to enjoy activities in the community.
The small van which was donated to us in 2009 had to be taken off the road in the early summer as it no longer met safety inspections. Thus, Participation Support Services must replace this van. The purchase of a new van plus the conversion to accommodate a lift for wheelchairs is approx. $90,000.00.
Other local service clubs have been approached and it is hoped that by the time the new van arrives in the early winter, all funds will have been raised!
Currently Participation Support Services supports over 350 individuals in the community with either a physical disability, a complex health care need and/or senior. Participation Support Services is a non-profit charitable organization (charitable #107820466RR0001).
